Description

The Symposium is an annual networking event and awards ceremony showcasing innovative projects which have used the British Library's digital collections and data over the past year. Awards are given out recognising outstanding use of British Library's digital content in the categories of Research, Commercial, Artistic, or Teaching & Learning.

Delegate badges - coloured dots to help shy networkers!
For those of you that are shy, we have devised a cunning plan to help you network and get help on the day from the BL Labs and Digital Scholarship team at the British Library. Your delegate badges will have coloured dots which indicate the broad types of Digital Collections and data you are interested in.

13:50 - 15:00 British Library Labs Awards (2018): winners' presentations

British Library Labs has been working with researchers, artists and entrepreneurs from around the world to enable them to make use of the British Library's digital content and data. This session celebrates projects entered in the BL Labs Awards (2018). It will be followed by special presentations from the runners-up and winners of each category:

Artistic Award
Presented by Jamie Andrews, Head of Culture and Learning at the British Library
This Award recognises an artistic or creative endeavour that has used the Library’s digital content to inspire, amaze and provoke.

Commercial Award
Presented by Jessica Mahoney, Business Partnerships Manager, The British Library
This Award celebrates an activity that delivers or develops commercial value in the context of new products, tools, or services that build on, incorporate, or enhance the Library's digital content.

Teaching / Learning Award
Presented by Ria Bartlett, Learning Programmes Manager at the British Library
This Award celebrates quality learning experiences created for learners of any age and ability that use the Library's digital content.

Research Award
Presented by Amelie Roper, Research Development Manager at the British Library
This Award recognises a project or activity which shows the development of new knowledge, research methods, or tools using the Library’s digital content.

British Library Staff Award
Presented by David Sparling, Head of Information Technology at the British Library
This Award recognises a current member of staff or team that have played a key role in innovative work with the Library’s digital content.
