Description
Examining recent policies and developments concerning British Muslims, the modalities of Muslim representation and the impact of policy decisions namely around extremism and securitisation, education, identity and Islamophobia.
The seminar will explore calling for a public discourse and policy approach towards British Muslims that is fair and just.

1. AbdoolKarim A. Vakil
Lecturer in History in departments of Histry and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American
Studies at King's College London.
Chair of Research and Documentation Unit, Muslim Council of Britain.
Author of Thinking Through Islamophobia: Global Perspectives (Hurst, 2011).
2. Dr Daniel Nilsson DeHanas
Lecturer of Political Science and Religion at
King’s College London. He has previously
held research positions at the University of
Bristol and the University of Kent. His
publications include ‘A System of Self-
Appointed Leaders? : Examining Modes of
Muslim Representation in Britain,’ (with S.
Jones, T. O’Toole, T. Modood, and N. Meer /
British Journal of Politics and International
Relations 2014).
3. Dr Shamim Miah
Senior Lecturer at the School of Education,
University of Huddersfield. Author, Muslims,
Schooling and the Question of
Self-Segregation (Palgrave, April 2015).
4. Professor Jeffery Haynes
Associate Dean (Research), Head of the
School of Social Sciences, Professor of
Politics, and Director of the Centre for the
Study of Religion, Conflict and Cooperation,
London Metropolitan University.
Author/editor of 38 books, recent
publications include Faith-based
Organisations at the United Nations (Palgrave,
2014) and Religion and Political Change in the
Modern World (Routledge, 2014).
