About this event

The common perception of Britain’s defences in the Second World War is essentially based on Dad’s Army, but nothing could be further from the truth!

Andrew Chatterton, a Second World War historian, will talk about two groups of civilian volunteers who were prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice if the Germans had invaded, and even today have received no official recognition.

The men of the Auxiliary Units and the men, women and teenagers of the Special Duties Branch all signed the Official Secrets Act and were prepared to carry out acts of sabotage, assassinations, guerrilla warfare and spy on the advancing enemy.

Patrols were all around the local area with some families still having no idea that their relative was involved!
