About this event

BRITISH SOCIETY FOR THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE BIENNIAL CONGRESS image

The rich industrial heritage of the city will provide an ideal backdrop to explore the key theme: ‘history of medicine in the workplace’.

Other themes of the congress are topical and relevant in the history of medicine.

The chosen venue; The Diamond Building forms part of The University of Sheffield and has excellent modern facilities in close proximity to the city centre. There are many types of hotels nearby offering accommodation to suit all budgets.

Sheffield is centrally located and has excellent road and rail links. There are many places of interest to visit in the city and nearby. These include the ‘great houses’ such as Chatsworth and Wentworth Woodhouse. Eyam; the so-called Plague Village, is within easy reach, as are the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the National Coal Mining Museum. Excellent opportunities for outdoor pursuits are available in the Peak District National Park, some of which lies within the city boundary.

  • History of Medicine in the Workplace: Chris Corker, Joan Gaunt & John Dornan
  • History of Pandemics: Mark Honigsbaum
  • History of Nursing: Christine Hallett
