Event description

Description

France is justly famous for its cheeses, including such triumphs of the craft as Comte and Roquefort as well as lesser known delights like Cantal or Mistralou. Britain also has a world class cheese-making tradition stretching back at least 2,000 years responsible for cultural gems like Cheddar, Stilton and Lancashire and since the 1970’s British cheese renaissance, innovations like St Cera, a funky washed-rind and Beenleigh, a sweet blue sheep’s milk.

Cheeses, like wines, are a product of the culture, climate and soil of the region that produces them, an idea that the French call ‘terroir.’ Join us at London Cheesemongers as expert cheesemonger Ned Palmer explores the notion of terroir with the aid of a selection of the finest French and British cheeses, sharing their origin myths, histories, and stories about their producers. We’ll also discuss some fresh ideas for matching cheese with drinks, including French wines and British craft beers.

We will be serving generous portions of eight different cheeses, selected that very week to showcase the best both countries have to offer. The cheeses will be accompanied by sourdough breads, fruit pastes and pickles, white and red wines, pale ale and porter. Eat a light lunch and don’t book dinner!
