Broad Plain Public Realm Consultation - Walkabout
Join Bristol City Council designers for a walking tour of the Broad Plain area and let us know what you think of our plans
About this event
Bristol City Council has launched a consultation on a public realm strategy designed to improve the streets and public spaces of Broad Plain.
As part of the consultation, we will conduct a series of walking tours around the Broad Plain area. This will give you the opportunity to ask us questions and share your views while we walk through the locations covered by the strategy.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions and the need for social distancing, we are limiting the number of people who can attend these events. We will break in to two groups (maximum of 8 people per group). If you would like to make notes , please bring your own pen and paper. Government guidance on minimising the risk of catching or passing on Covid-19 can be found here
Summary of Proposals
Located close to Temple Meads Station, Temple Quarter and the city centre, the area in and around Broad Plain is undergoing rapid social and economic change. The council plans to create a city centre neighbourhood that is not dominated by traffic with the creation of attractive public spaces and pedestrian and cyclist friendly streets. Making it an attractive place to live and work. The proposals follow feedback to an initial public engagement in September 2019 designed to understand issues and opportunities in the area and support the community’s vision for an attractive central neighbourhood.
The public realm strategy focuses on the area bounded by Temple Way, Old Market Street, Midland Road, New Kingsley Road/Horton Street and Avon Street. However, the strategy extends to existing pedestrian and cycle routes through the Broad Plain area including the mainly pedestrian route between Old Market and Temple Meads Station and the well-used cycling and walking route linking the city centre to the Bristol and Bath Railway Path.
