Broadcasting mingles with the air of the glens

Thursday 23 November, 2 pm

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the first live radio commentary of shinty, made by the Rev Roderick Swann Boyd and Hugh MacPhee of Ballachulish. Dr Hugh Dan MacLennan, the Library's Sports Writer in Residence, traces the development of outside broadcasts from the early days of the BBC in Scotland. He traces the development of the coverage of shinty on radio and television from these early, innovative days. Illustrated with National Library material and with unique access to the Boyd family archives.
