Event description

Description

Following the hugely popular rooftop tours in 2016, 201 Bishopsgate at Broadgate is once again welcoming Open House 2017 visitors to come along and see the environmentally friendly green space 12 storeys above London.

Built out of steel and glass, the striking 201 Bishopsgate building designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill was completed in 2008.

Unlike Broadgate Tower, which rises straight up into the sky, 201 Bishopsgate’s curved form sweeps around the junction of Primrose Street and Bishopsgate. Designed to contrast and complement each other, the two Broadgate buildings are structurally knitted together via an external ‘A’ frame, which distributes weight onto the load bearing parts of the raft below.

201 Bishopsgate has won several awards for sustainability and recycling and also boasts a green roof, which looks out on to the impressive London skyline.

This green rooftop, which was shortlisted for a City in Bloom 2016 award, is one of 12 created by British Land on new buildings to add biodiversity value to urban areas, cut CO2 emissions and promote wellbeing for people working on site and around the area.

Green roofs can also:

- Reduce local flood risk by slowing rainwater run-off rates through rainwater catchment systems

- Provide a natural and safe environment for insects and birds to live

- Improve the appearance of the roofscape for people on higher floors and in overlooking buildings, transforming areas that might otherwise be left bare

- Mitigate the urban heat island effect, removing heat from the air through the natural process of evaporation, cooling the roof surface and the surrounding air

This September 2017, Broadgate invites you to take a tour of the 201 Bishopsgate rooftop during Open House London and see the breath-taking views over the capital first-hand.

As access to the rooftop is normally restricted, this tour will show you a side of London that is not experienced by many.

Please book your time slot, as tours will begin at 10am and run until 4pm all weekend, with groups of 15 people maximum taken to the roof in 30 minute slots.

There might be a slight delay in running schedule on the day, so please do bear with us!
