About this event

  • Event lasts 5 days 21 hours

Experience a week on a Scottish west coast island helping us build and repair footpaths in our beautiful woodlands with a group of like-minded volunteers. You will be working in a team led by experienced rangers and footpath experts. A chance to learn new skills, enjoy the team work and soak up the amazing landscapes of Arran. It will involve some hard work so you will need a good level of fitness.

Accommodation and food will be provided in Shore Lodge bunkhouse. All you need to do is get yourself to the Isle of Arran.

How strenuous will the work be? You will be working within the woodlands of Brodick Country Park. The work is classed as strenuous with digging and lifting required. However, you will be working as part of a team and we’ll be having plenty of breaks during the day with a chance to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings. On one day you’ll be walking out (approx. 2km) into the magnificent Glen Rosa to help up protect native trees we have planted this winter. It will be hard work, but hopefully everyone will enjoy themselves!

Accomodation is in Shore Lodge bunkhouse, so sharing rooms. All bedding will be provide but you will need to bring a towel. We will send you full joining instructions when you book.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a member of the National Trust for Scotland or have volunteered before?

No to both, this can be your first time helping us with our conservation work, but we will need to register you as a NTS volunteer for the week.

I have a health condition/disability can I still come?

We want volunteering for the Trust to be as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have specific health needs, or adjustments please contact us and we’d be happy to chat to see what is possible.

Is transport to the accommodation included?

Caledonian MacBrayne (Calmac) operate a ferry service to the Isle of Arran from Ardrossan & Troon. You will just need to get yourself onto a ferry and we will pick you up in Brodick and take you to your accommodation. Full details will be given as part of your joining instructions
