Event description

Description

To accredit or not to accredit, that is the question. What are the benefits of being accredited? How much work does it take? And if you do decide to become an accredited coach, which of the coaching bodies is most appropriate for you? Professor Mary Watts, Meyler Campbell’s Programme Director, will answer these questions and many more in this essential guide for any coach contemplating setting out on the path to accreditation.

Mary will bust some of the myths – for instance, it can be a more straightforward process than you might think, if you know what you’re doing (which you will, after this session!). She will shed light on the pros and cons of the various accrediting bodies, for example the AC, the WABC, the EMCC, the ICF, APECS … She will look at how accreditation fits into the changing landscape of the coaching market and the growing professionalization of the discipline, and how it can open new doors for professional development and involvement in a wider coaching community. And she will also show you ways to make the journey to accreditation fun!

Mary Watts is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at City University, where she was formerly Pro-Vice-Chancellor. For many years she has worked with others to enhance and extend professional practice, learning and change across a range of contexts - including health, education, the police, business and professional bodies; and in a number of roles including coach, supervisor, teacher, consultant, psychotherapist, academic leader and psychologist. She continues to support individuals working towards professionally focused Masters- and Doctoral-level qualifications and to research, write and publish. Mary also makes an extremely valuable contribution to Meyler Campbell as its Programme Director. She was recently Chair of both the British Psychological Society's Special Group in Coaching Psychology and the recent International Congress in Coaching Psychology.
