If you’ve ever wondered why some relationships fly and others flounder, and particularly if you’re keen to learn more about team coaching, this Brown Bag is for you. FIRO-B is a powerful, although not particularly well known, psychometric tool that provides a unique lens on our psychological make up. It can reach parts of our identity that the mainstream psychometrics are unable to touch. It provides a guide to understanding our interpersonal needs, and how we get them met, and a key to unlock seemingly intransigent relationship stumbling blocks. For example, analysing interactions against this frame of reference can reveal how our clients (and ourselves as coaches) give off mixed messages in interactions with others.

In this Brown Bag lunch, former OPP CEO and FIRO-B expert Penny Moyle will explain how the FIRO framework focuses on relationships: what we want from our interactions with others and what we give in return. Relationships are at the heart of everything we do, even when we have chosen to be alone. We each have three fundamental areas of interpersonal need: a need for Involvement and Inclusion; a need for Influence and Control; and a need for Openness and Affection. When these needs are not met, relationships falter. In contrast, finding a way to get your needs met, and to meet those of others, builds trust in relationships, which in turn powers performance.

Penny Moyle is a business psychologist, coach, and former CEP of OPP (the European distributor of the MBTI and FIRO-B). She is passionate about developing people, particularly helping them thrive through personal and organisational change. Penny has used FIRO for over 20 years in leadership and management development interventions; with individuals and groups; with both clients and her own teams. An Argentine tango dancer on weekends, Penny believes that learning how to follow has provided huge personal development in the FIRO arena of Control.

Could FIRO-B be your new secret weapon in coaching both teams and individuals? Come along to this event and find out!
