Event description

Description

Join us for an evening of powerful theatre and challenging debate on global maternal health as B!RTH comes to LSTM for the first time.

Each year, an estimated 303,000 women and over 5 million babies die because of complications during pregnancy and childbirth. The vast majority of these deaths occur in low and middle income countries, and many are preventable.

B!RTH is a unique collaboration between LSTM's Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health, the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, and the Oglesby Charitable Trust which uses the power of theatre to address the pressing issue of global health inequality. B!RTH offers an innovative platform for science and the arts to work together to ignite debate and galvanise action, and we know that - as the next generation of global health leaders - LSTM's students can help to make a change. The evening's programme of events will include excerpts from our Kenya and Syria plays, which address issus including obstetric fistula, sexual traficking, and maternal health in warzones.

Please note that this event is open to LSTM students and staff only; this is not a public event.
