About Liz Hyder:
Liz Hyder has been making up stories ever since she can remember. She has a BA in drama from the University of Bristol and, in early 2018, won the Bridge Award/Moniack Mhor’s Emerging Writer Award.
Her debut novel, Bearmouth, won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Older Readers, the Branford Boase Award and was The Times Children’s Book of the Year. Her latest novel, The Twelve, won the 2024 Nero Book Awards prize for Children's Fiction and the Tir na n-Og Award 2025 English language category. It was a book of the year in both The Financial Times and The Guardian, one of The Observer's young adult books of the month and Children's Book of the Week in The Times.
Liz has also written two acclaimed historical fiction novels for adults -The Gifts and The Illusions - and is currently working on more ideas than she has time to write.
About The Twelve:
The Twelve is a deeply magical novel that explores the haunting mystery of a vanishing sister and the folklore surrounding ‘The Twelve’. The novel follows protagonist Kit on a winter holiday with her sister, Libby, and their mum. When suddenly her sister vanishes into thin air and only a local boy named Story remembers her, he and Kit join forces and embark on a journey into a world steeped in ancient folklore to uncover the truth and find Libby.
