With a thousand years of heritage, Norwich boasts examples of every significant era in architectural history. But amongst the youngest genres, its brutalist architecture is now threatened with demolition and redevelopment. Join academic and writer Dr. James Benedict Brown for this guided bicycle tour of Norwich's notable twentieth-century brutalist buildings. We'll cross Norwich from west to north, exploring the UEA campus buildings designed by Denys Lasdun (1962-68), stopping off at lesser-known buildings around the city before concluding with the ever controversial Anglia Square complex (Alan Cooke Associates, 1966-68). We will adjourn for a warming pint after the end of the tour.

The tour is a 'pilot' in anticipation of future tours and is offered at no charge, although critical feedback and donations will be welcomed.

Important notes:

• Rendezvous point in central Norwich (NR1 / NR2) to be confirmed nearer the time.

• Please bring your own bike. Check your tyres, brakes and chain before the tour. Bring bike lights and an adequate lock.

• Wear appropriate clothing, including a scarf, gloves, etc. The tour will take place regardless of the weather.

• We will be cycling on a variety of public roads, shared footpaths and dedicated cycle paths. You will be responsible for observing the Highway Code at all times.

• You should have a reasonable level of fitness, but we will pace ourselves according to the slowest rider. We expect to cycle no more than 8 miles over the course of two hours, with occasional moderate gradients.
