Bryan Washington in Conversation
Overview
Winner of the Dylan Thomas Prize Bryan Washington visits Foyles for the London launch of Palaver, his new novel about family, mending and love.
In Tokyo, the son works as an English tutor, drinking his nights away with friends at a gay bar. Estranged from his family in America, in the weeks leading up to Christmas, a decade since they've last seen each other, the mother arrives uninvited on his doorstep. Navigating forgiveness, memory and finding home, Palaver is a rich and life-affirming novel from one of the most exciting novelists working today.
Bryan Washington is the author of the story collection Lot and the novels Memorial and Family Meal. A National Book Award 5 Under 35 Honoree, he is the winner of the Dylan Thomas Prize, the NYPL Young Lions Fiction Award, two Lambda Literary Awards, and has been a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize, and the James Tait Black Prize. A frequent contributor to the New Yorker and the New York Times, his writing has also appeared in Granta, New York Times Magazine, Time, GQ, and Esquire, among many other places. He lives in Tokyo.
