Description

The aim of this course is to introduce participants to the fundamental principles and practices specified for temporary electrical systems. It is thoroughly recommended that anyone who has not had formal electrical training should complete the Electrical Fundamentals course before undertaking this course.

The course will include:

  • scope of BS7909 and its relationship to other standards, regulations and legislation

  • reference to the terms and definitions contained in BS79

  • required management arrangements and responsibilities for temporary installations

  • risk assessment applied to temporary installations

  • planning and procurement of electrical equipment for small/simple and large/complex events

  • the use of local energy supplies, generators and combinations of both

  • cables and connectors to be used and how switchgear, cables and equipment should be protected against damage

  • earthing and bonding arrangements and the use of RCDs

  • the importance of compliance with maximum earth fault loop impedance values

  • circuit identification and isolation

  • inspection and testing and the documentation required

  • producing completion certificates and schedules of test results

Throughout the course, reference will be made to the requirements of: BS7909, The Electricity at Work Regulations, BS7671-Requirements for Electrical Installations (the IEE Wiring Regulations).

Delegates are required to take their own copy of BS7909 or Temporary Power Systems: A guide to the application of BS 7671 and BS7909 for temporary events (Author: James Eade).
