#besmartaboutart networking is a monthly opportunity to discover spaces, artists, curators and exhibition models, to network with peers - and last, but certainly not least, to learn about networking!
In October 2016, we're delighted to visit The Rooftop Collective's annual exhibition in conjunction with photomonth east.
Works displayed in ‘Edition V’ range from sublime landscapes to dynamic portraiture, and are created with a plethora of cameras and techniques. This combination presents an immersive experience of photography today, in which it becomes clear that analogue and digital photography are equally relevant – just different. As a group, the shared experiences of living in the cultural hub of London presents opportunities and challenges alike for this group of photographers who participate in ongoing dialogue between one another.
Steve Macleod, Director of Metro Imaging, says of the collective and artists as practitioners:
“Community is a buzz word that we often use to describe the world of photography - yet that world is populated by rather insulated individuals alone with their ideas and their craft, creatives having to balance risk; doubt; failure and success. Collectives act as a platform to share ideas with like minded people, its also a vital support network allowing artists to explore those ideas so that they can evaluate the same risks; doubts failures and successes.”
About the event:
Starting at 6.30pm, we'll start by viewing the exhibition and networking. At approximately 7.30pm, Be Smart About Art Founder Susan Mumford will give a talk about the show and the relevance of collectives in today's art world. This will incorporate a Q&A session for attendees. This will be followed by providing three top networking tips to benefit the building of a career in the visual arts.
About the collective:
Started on the rooftops of Soho in 2010, this group of photographers works together to support and challenge one another in mutual pursuit of ongoing creative and professional development. Today, the group is powered by Be Smart About Art, whose motto is “Art is your life. Make it your living.”
We look forward to seeing many artists, gallerists, curators, art lovers and other industry professionals there! It will be a complimentary blend of art talk, business and networking - essential ingredients for SUCCESS!
