Buckinghamshire DAAT Legal Highs Conference
Thursday, 12 November 2015 from 09:00 to 16:30 (GMT)
Buckinghamshire DAAT are delighted to announce the date of our
Legal Highs Conference,
12th November 2015
Kings Church, Amersham, HP6 6LX
“Legal highs” is the common term for New Psychoactive Substances (NPS). Many are currently legal, often unregulated substances although some – like Mephedrone – started as legal substances and were banned in 2010. However, “legal highs” remains a misleading catchall layman’s term for this family of substances.
The Buckinghamshire Drug and Alcohol Team commissioned a “legal highs” Needs Assessment in late 2013 which included field research, a national online survey (of users and non-users) and a data capture exercise which was concluded in November 2014.
The report has increased our understanding of this significant change in drug using patterns in Buckinghamshire and across the substance misuse field, has dispelled several myths about legal high use and has informed several other strands of work including; a Service User Consultation and the Development of a Mephedrone Handbook.
This conference will give attendees the opportunity to hear about the results of Buckinghamshire's needs assessment and follow on work from a range of speakers that will ensure delegates get a local, regional and national picture of NPS use from the following guest speakers:
- Mephedrone Handbook and Service User Consultation Update – Tony D’Agostino
- My Legal High Survey – Professor Neil McKeganey (Click here for the survey)
- Legislation Updates – David Pickering, Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards
- Public Health England - Linda Stent
- The Oasis Partnership - Mr Colin Mcgregor-Paterson, CEO
