Buddha bowls are one of the best ways of to enjoy a complete meal, yet delicious and appealing. Also known as bliss bowl, glow bowl, hippie bowl, power bowl, glory bowl, nourish bowl, big bowl of awesomness etc. a Buddha Bowl gets its name not because it's zen and holy, but because it's so full that the oval shape resembles a laughing Buddha's belly. More than that, a buddha bowl is a plant-based meal, packed with the nutrition you need for optimum health. The great thing about is that it requires very little preparation, all the ingredients can be batch made and it's super easy and quick to put together, saving you precious time in the kitchen on those days you're really short on it.
WHY A BUDDHA BOWL?
Buddha Bowls are pretty. Let's face it, we like pretty food. In all fairness, it doesn't matter what we call it, but it matters what it looks like and tastes like in the end.
We eat with our eyes, and sight is the first sense that sends signals to the brain, checking whether the food is appealing or not. The more appealing it is (by being colourful and having a great smell and texture), the quicker you start reacting to it. That means you produce saliva and digestive enzymes preparing yourself for the feast. You may wonder what's the fuss about that? Well, the more saliva and digestive enzymes you produce, the quicker and easier the food you're eating gets broken down. That translates to better nutrient absorption and optimised energy. How cool is that? The food is not only pretty, but it's really good for you too. On that basis, starting with dessert first is good logic, but I'll tell you more about that another time.
