Description

Welfare Reform Impact Bradford (WRIB) is a community network chaired by Canon Gordon Dey who brings faith leaders and community practitioners together to tackle poverty and keep the community updated in on welfare reform through conferences and workshops supported by our partners Wellsprings Together and in association with the Bradford District Credit Union.

"Build a Better World - Let’s Deal with Debt"

We are inviting you to a free conference for faith, community, voluntary and statutory practitioners to come together for an information and knowledge exchange aimed at tackling poverty in the lead up to Christmas.

When: Thursday October 17th 2019

Where: Thornbury Centre, Leeds Old Road, Bradford, BD3 8JX

Time: 10.00 am to 1.00pm (Registration and refreshments from 9.30 am)

To coincide with International Credit Union Day, we have partnered the Bradford Anti-Poverty Events Group and Feeding Bradford who have run 'Surviving Summer', a series of conferences and road shows to support families who are vulnerable to holiday hunger in the summer holidays. Feedback from the conferences requested more information on four topics covered by distinguished keynote speakers:

  • Robert Kelly – The CEO of ABCUL (British Credit Union Trade Association) ‘Local Service, Global Reach - Credit Unions and Their Role in Tackling Poverty'

  • Dr Stephanie Bramley - Trainer & Academic ‘Gambling-Related Harm - Working Together to Raise Awareness & Signpost for Support'

  • Mike Mcaughtrie - LIASE Officer for Illegal Money Lending Team 'Loan Sharks in our Communities'

  • Dave Dickens - Director of Incommunities Housing Association ‘Update on Universal Credit in Bradford - 18 Months On'

The event will also launch ‘Surviving Christmas’, a series of community events to highlight the dangers of loan sharks and manage money in the lead up to Christmas at Halloween and Black Friday organised by the Bradford District Anti-Poverty Events Group.

We will give an opportunity to briefly hear from our network partners and invite organisations to have stands to give out information on the day as well as time for networking. To book a stall, please do so in advance by emailing Richard Paley on richardpaley48@hotmail.com
