Event description

Description

Learn all about Azure Serverless and Cognitive Services technologies by building your own AI-powered Slack bot which replaces peoples faces in images with emojis matching their emotion, like so: https://twitter.com/jawache/status/1057588272275357696

Format:

The event will be in-person at the Microsoft Reactor with an instructor on site, however, there will also be about 5 virtual mentors available online via Slack to help you if you get stuck.

You will learn:

  • How to detect emotion on peoples faces with the Azure Face API.

  • Then we’ll show you how to put “things” on images (like emoji) with the NodeJS Jimp image manipulation library.

  • We’ll then show you how to create a Serverless function (buzzword alert: it’s a piece of javascript code that gets executed every time you visit a URL) that returns that image.

  • Finally, we’ll show you how to link it all together into a Slack bot you can install on your own Slack workspace and call with a Slack slash command like /mojify

Requirements:

  • A fully charged laptop.

  • No machine learning experience necessary, absolute beginners welcome.

  • Must know JavaScript, at least be able to create a NodeJS script on their local machine and run it with a command line command.

Schedule:

6.30pm - Pre-workshop 30 mins for people who need help setting up their laptop.
7.00pm - Workshop Starts
9.00pm - Workshop Ends
