Event Description
Covid-19 has changed our lives. With this change, comes the opportunity to break with the past and imagine a new world. One which is fair, caring and sustainable. During this webinar we will discuss how we as individuals and as a University can contribute to a green recovery. We will outline what steps have already been taken and what still needs to be done to Build Back Better.
Attendees will gain:
- Knowledge on how to contribute to a sustainable economic recovery, regardless of your role
- An overview of lessons learned from the Covid-19 outbreak
- An insight into green recovery activities at the University and beyond
This event has been organised for Sustainability Champions. However, all interested University of Edinburgh staff and students are welcome to attend.
Speakers:
Dave Gorman, Director of Social Responsibility and Sustainability
Dave joined the University in 2013 as its first Director for Social Responsibility and Sustainability. He provides senior leadership and advice to the University on a wide range of topics including climate change and renewables, sustainability, responsible investment, community engagement, fair employment, sustainable and responsible supply chains and social investment. Prior to joining the University, Dave undertook a wide range of community and volunteering work after graduation, before pursuing a career in local government. For many years he worked for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, latterly as its Head of Strategy. Dave is a chartered environmentalist and a chartered manager, and a fellow of the RSA, the EAUC and the CMI.
Dr Sarah Birrell Ivory, Director of the Centre for Business, Climate Change and Sustainability
Dr Sarah Birrell Ivory is a Lecturer in Climate Change and Business Strategy at the University of Edinburgh Business School (UEBS), a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a Chartered Management and Business Educator (CMBE). She has a BCom (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, an MBA from Melbourne Business School (including an exchange semester at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill), an MSc (Research) and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. Prior to academia, Dr Ivory worked for a decade in the private sector in Singapore and Australia, and for an international NGO in the UK.
