Build Your Own Hand Held Games Console!
Saturday, 15 March 2014 from 11:00 to 14:00 (GMT)
Brighton, United Kingdom
In this workshop we’ll provide everything you need to make your very own hand held games console! This build-it-yourself kit is based around an 8x8 LED display matrix and comes ready to play our own minimal take on a whole pile of classic games, including Space Invaders, Breakout, Pacman, Connect4 and Memory. It even has sound!
This is a basic to medium complexity soldering workshop suitable for adults and older children (under-16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). The workshop includes everything you need to build your games console - even the batteries! We’ll also supply the tools and guide you through the build.
You can also program your own games for your new console using the popular and open source Arduino development environment (which can be downloaded for free). All attendees will receive a free USB programmer that can be used to reprogram your games console. You’re welcome to bring your laptop along to the workshop if you’re interested in programming your own games, and we’ll help you get set up. Or if you just want to play the games that come bundled with the console, that’s fine too!
This workshop is great for all levels, from electronics newbies right up to those who are experienced using Arduino and are interested in designing customised gadgets. Maybe you just want a geeky toy you made yourself – its all cool.
