Existing surfer? Wannabe surfer? Summer dreamer?
Join expert craftsman and surfer Nadav Nov of Nof Surfboards to build your own sustainable hollow wooden surfboard, in time to catch next summer’s waves.
Starting off, he’ll teach you the basics of surfboard design and how these elements affect your performance in the water. Each participant on the course will design and build their own board based on their own unique features, level of riding and style.
During the 8 week course you’ll use both machinery and hand tools to build your surfboard, getting a better understanding of wood and its attributes. You’ll start by learning how to construct the fishbone structure of the surfboard, followed by closing the top and bottom decks, and preparing the fin and vent plugs needed. Following this, you’ll bend and laminate the wooden rails onto the core structure and work on the hand shaping of the rails and fine tuning of the surfboard shape. Finally you’ll start sanding and preparing your surfboard for its finishing coats.
Nadav is a firm believer that building your own surfboard is a uniquely satisfying and challenging experience – being able to take raw wood and turn it into a functional and beautiful form that can withstand and harness the energy of the ocean. Hollow wooden surfboards are not only made from sustainable materials, but are strong and durable, resist breaking and should last a lifetime – not to mention are very fast in water and feel natural with the waves.
