Hear how places can meet more of our daily food needs within a short walk or cycle, by re-localising their food systems.
About this event
In its 2020 programme for government, the Scottish government says “...we will take steps that support the idea of 20-minute neighbourhoods – where people can meet their needs within a 20-minute walk from their house – enabling people to live better, healthier lives and supporting our net zero ambitions.” Executive Director of Forth Environment Link, Clara Walker, will present the concept of the 20-minute neighbourhood and put it into a Scottish context. Hear how active travel and food & growing projects along with support for NeighbourFood click and collect online markets is enabling communities to reduce car journeys and make more everyday journeys on foot or by bike.
Ruth Glasgow of The Hub G63 will highlight how their projects in Drymen, including transforming the village shop into a zero-waste store, establishing a community garden and running a successful a NeighbourFood market, is making it easier than ever for residents to swap car journeys for a short walk to buy good food.
This event is ideal for anyone who wants to hear how improved access to local food and more active travel for short everyday journeys can add value to communities, boost the local economy, and protect the environment.
Talks will be followed by an informal Q&A session.
