Building a campaign for deliberative democracy
Event Information

Instructions for joining the meeting
Ensure you have a computer / tablet / phone with a camera and a headset
- The headset helps us hear each other clearly by preventing feedback and background noise. Those that come with a smartphone are ideal.
- We strongly recommend everyone uses their webcam. During the small group sessions it really helps facilitate discussion when you can see each other.
- Find a quiet corner. Please be aware that the space behind you will be visual to others and may be recorded so check there is no personal information on show.
- When you’re ready, please click this link to join and to download the software: https://zoom.us/j/812783259
- Make sure your name is clear, as it helps the chair call on you for input more easily.
- Then please take a moment to familiarise yourself with Zoom.
- The mute button is on the left-hand of the toolbar at the bottom of your screen. We recommend you put yourself on mute when you are not talking to prevent feedback.
- Find the chat bar to message others within the group and share resources. We will post key information here as well.
- You can also join the event by phone although this will limit your engagement. If required, however: dial: +44 203 695 0088 (United Kingdom Toll). You will then need to type the ‘Meeting ID’ into your handset: 812 783 259, then the ’#’ symbol to continue, and ‘#’ again to confirm.
- We film most of our events. By attending this online event you accept that you may appear in a RSA video as a participant. We currently do not have plans to share this recording publicly but may do so in the future.
Earlier this year Matthew Taylor’s 12th Chief Executive’s lecture made a strong case for a step-change in the use of deliberative democracy in the UK. The RSA has teamed up with Involve - the UK's leading public participation charity – to start this work and together we are building a broad-based campaign for deliberative democracy in the UK.
Join us for an interactive online workshop where we will share our ideas for deliberative democracy and how to accelerate its uptake. We also will be asking you to feed in your perspectives, including:
- Why deliberative democracy, rather than other approaches?
- Why now? Is there a greater energy for change now than before?
- What are the barriers to increased deliberative democracy practice?
If you have any access requirements or require any reasonable adjustments, please let the team know: engagement@rsa.org.uk.
