Building a culture of constructive feedback in my team - Joint event

A joint Sussex/Kent branch event… an opportunity to network across the border!

By The CIPD Branch in Kent

Date and time

Location

Bowles Outdoor Centre

Sandhill Lane Eridge Green TN3 9LW United Kingdom

About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

“Feedback is the breakfast of champions” Ken Blanchard.

In studies feedback is consistently found to be culturally endemic in any high performing team.

However, there are so many doubts we may have before taking the feedback plunge…

  • Why is it so hard?
  • I must have said it a dozen times already.
  • How do I prevent upsetting my team member?
  • Will the situation improve or will I make it worse?

This list could go on!

This session will be useful on a macro level for anyone who wants to take the lead in instilling a feedback culture in their team, or on a micro level for anyone who wants to get those messages across in a way which retains, even builds, the relationship.

Format:

  • We will start with useful tips which can be put into action straight away. This will include a light touch activity to create constructive discussion. The activity will be easy to use in your place of work.
  • Then a tour around the centre, highlighting how activities can be used to make feedback easier and more constructive.
  • Networking sandwich lunch for all visitors.
  • Opportunity to do an outdoor activity for any who want to stay after networking.

About the speaker

Jonathan Handcock - Head of Learning & Development Bowles Outdoor Centre

Currently leading the commercial subsidiary to Bowles Rocks Trust, a charity which enables young people to have adventurous outdoor experiences. The subsidiary consists of a small team of facilitators who deliver outcome-driven development programmes, using the great outdoors, for a diverse corporate clientele, with all profits going to the charity. We also offer fun team days and facility hire.

Prior to this role, Jonathan had extensive experience designing, leading and delivering experiential Learning and Development programmes. The experiential (or “learning by doing”) element ranging from simple team tasks designed to bring out specific learning outcomes, to 2-day complex expeditions on the south coast for British Airways Management Apprentices to live and breathe their corporate leadership behaviours.

Having lived in the French Alps for nearly a decade, this role combines Jonathan’s love of the outdoors with his love of enabling others to achieve at a higher level than they realise.

We are the CIPD Branch in Kent - the professional body for HR and people development. The not-for-profit organisation champions better work and working lives and has been setting the benchmark for excellence in people and organisation development for more than 100 years.

We have a wide range of organisations and CIPD membership and we respond to this with a full selection of CPD and networking opportunities.

Due to the geographical spread of the county we have 3 area groups – Mid Kent, West Kent and East Kent. Between them they regularly hold sessions with guest speakers on subjects requested by the members. Most events are supported by local companies who host the events and provide an opportunity to meet other HR practitioners.

We also appreciate the specialisms within HR and have Special Interest Groups that meet regularly and occasionally have speakers. These groups include Health and Social Care and Senior Practitioners. Similarly we have smaller bespoke groups, Self Managed Learning Groups that operate throughout the county. These include the Coaching Groups in East Kent and West Kent. We  encourage the creation of new groups so if there is not an area covered, why not set one up?

Join our LinkedIn group to connect with other local members, follow us on Twitter, like our Facebook page, or sign up to our emails for the latest news and events information.

Come along to an event and meet our friendly and welcoming committee members and the wonderful HR community of Kent!
