Chris Webster from the ONS Big Data team will be talking about Event Sourcing with the Apache Cassandra NoSQL database. The demonstration uses a Python Notebook to illustrate this. Chris will give a basic introduction to how Cassandra works, plus a very simple example of how/why you might use Cassandra to do Event Sourcing.
This has been organised via the ONS Developers' Community of Practice, so it would be good if you have some basic familiarity with programming or databases eg. Python/R coding, basic knowledge of SQL, or similar. But you don't need any knowledge of the specific technologies under discussion, so anyone who is interested is very welcome to come along.
The event is scheduled for 90 minutes but will be broken up into 1 hour for the presentation and questions, then another 20-30 mins on the demonstration for anyone wanting to stay for that.
This is for staff only at the Office for National Statistics
