Building an expert profile: Getting your points across in the media
Overview
Building an expert profile: getting your point across in the media and online
Participants in this workshop will build their understanding of how engaging with the media - including social media - can help to build a reputation as a go-to expert in the policy world. In particular, it will look at how to work through on and offline media to make research more 'discoverable' by policymakers and inform the context within which policy is shaped.
The session will look at:
- The changing media landscape and how to make the most of it for your research
- How to articulate your research for media journalists
- How to build an online profile to promote your research
Taking part in the session will be of benefit to researchers working in any subjects and at any point in their career as well as professional services staff working to support engagement with policy makers.
The workshop will be run by consultants from Showrunner Communications - a company that specialises in helping experts from business, the third sector and academia to engage influentially with policy. The facilitators are experienced policy professionals who have worked in Parliament, Government Departments, and major think tanks including Demos and New Local. They have also held senior positions in universities including UCL and Queen Mary University of London.
