Building Back Better:

How Improvement Thinking Can Help

Facilitated by: Joanna Gilchrist and Liz Shelvin, Leading Improvement Team, Scottish Government

About the session:

Join Joanna and Liz in this FREE workshop session to identify collective priorities for improvement within the context of current challenges and ‘building back better". It is also an opportunity to explore how improvement thinking could help within this context.

Quality improvement methods are helping to make a difference and improve services across public services. Now, more than ever, these approaches and methods are relevant given the level of change we are experiencing and the Scottish approach to policy and service delivery which has been set out by the First Minister as we respond, recover and renew.

The pandemic has highlighted how interconnected the work we do is. There are few health problems that are not also social problems. There are few economic issues that are not also issues of connectivity, education and skills.

An improvement approach helps us to create the conditions for systemic change. It offers a methodology to empower and harness the energy and creativity of front line staff and communities in developing, testing and implementing changes that put service users at the centre.

Purpose of the session

  • To provide an opportunity to identify collective priorities for improvement within the context of current challenges and ‘building back better’
  • To explore how improvement thinking could help

This FREE workshop is open to CEOs and senior leaders of voluntary sector organisations.
