Description

Building Brum: Trading Places

Hosted by Glancy Nicholls Architects

Trading Places: Inventing and Innovating Towards a Future Birmingham Architecture.

Birmingham: The city of a 1000 trades is evolving. Once the beating heart of the industrial revolution, the city now stands upon the cusp of a new revolution. Major financial institutions are relocating to the city, the digital media sector looks to establish a home and like never before, there is huge aspiration to live, work and play in the workshop of the world. The result of this is a demand for a Brum architecture that not only fiercely celebrates our industrial heritage, but also looks to follow form as inventors and innovators.

As architects in the Jewellery Quarter and housed in a former electroplating works, Glancy Nicholls Architects are hosting an evening of discussion on the design of new architecture within historically significant contexts, and how new life can be brought into old structures and existing buildings for repurposing and regeneration.

Trading Places will feature talks from some very special guest speakers from Birmingham City Council as well as delicious street food served by Big Daddies Diner and The Hungry Toad, with drinks also provided by the Two Towers Brewery.

Special guest speakers:

Richard Cowell, (MRTPI). Planning and Regeneration Department, Birmingham City Council. Assistant Director Development.

Andrew Fuller, (MA, BSc, Dip TP, IHBC, MRTPI I) Principal Conservation Officer I Planning and Regeneration I City Design and Conservation Team

The Building Brum event series is proudly sponsored by Interface, EH Smith, Orangebox, Johnson Tiles and Schluter Systems.
