Event description

Description

Action-attainment’s new workshop for parents and teaching staff of children and young adults with hidden communication needs examines how we can understand, plan and prepare for attainment with a good understanding of hidden communication needs.

‘Talking Tomorrows’, specialist speech and language therapists, explain how to:

• Identify hidden communication needs

• Understand life-long impacts on learning & interaction

• Know how to find practical strategies for education, work and social integration

• Actions to put in place scaffolding for young people’s attainment across their life-span

Tina Meagher and Nicola Masterson, of Talking Tomorrows, will lead the workshop. Both are highly specialist Speech and Language Therapists who will share their rare and extensive experience of working intensively with young people aged 11 to 25, as they progress from school into college and the workplace.

Sadly, language and communication difficulties often go undiagnosed or are mis-understood. Children and young people do not receive the help they need to reach their potential in life. Despite their intelligence, national statistics on attainment show how, typically, this leads to poor educational, social and emotional outcomes along with difficulties in employment in comparison to their peer group. Professional analysis of the individual's communication and learning profile helps the student, parents and teachers understand and then implement strategies for learning. Action leads to attainment.
