About this event

Building Cornerstones: Collaging and Lino-cutting

If you ran your own third space, what would you call it?

Join us for an afternoon of craft and creativity, where we’ll explore the mediums of lino and collaging as forms of social resistance.

These two workshops aim to highlight the lack of third spaces in urban environments, as well as explore arts and craft as a form of visual manifesto that demands change in our communal landscape.

The erasure of third spaces disproportionately impacts lower-income areas in London, with 46 centres shutting down between 2018-2023 (UCL Pi Media). A prime example of this being the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre, which was torn down to make student flats, causing the loss of community cornerstones, particularly for its Latin American community.

Facilitated by: Isata Kamara & Artist & Serra Abbie Luthena, Artist and Founder of the LDE UTC Shedspace project

As part of the PeoplesPavilion 2025 programme, this event centres the craftsmanship of William Morris, as well as his approach to social justice, and how we have the power to inform social change through using art and design as visual protest. Hence, reviving the process of building community cornerstones.

All children under 14 must be supervised by a parnet or appropriate adult.
