Building Energy Resilience in the Liverpool City Region: Towards a resilient, affordable, and efficient City Region.
About this event
At its last meeting, the Liverpool City Region APPG discussed innovation and R&D in the City Region. As Mayor Steve Rotheram noted at the time, the potential of the Liverpool City Region is underpinned not only by the strength of its innovation clusters, but the creation of new low-carbon energy sources in the City Region through the Mersey Tidal Power and HyNet projects.
At the same time, April statistics from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy show that 41,297 households in Liverpool alone are experiencing fuel poverty - 18.7% of Liverpool’s population. Most of the dwellings in the Liverpool City Region only attain an Energy Performance Certificate of Band D. With a goal of every household attaining band C by 2035, the City Region has a huge task ahead. We are pleased that the Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place will be producing research on energy in the City Region, looking at fuel poverty, innovation in energy, and the City Region’s potential to build capacity and resilience in its system.
We will be hearing from speakers including: Energy Minister Greg Hands (tbc), Shadow Minister for Green New Deal and Energy Alan Whitehead (tbc), The Mayor of Liverpool Steve Rotheram, representatives from Scottish Power, Mick Blakely, an energy spokesperson for the Liverpool City Region from Citizens Advice. The session will kick off with a short presentation of the research undertaken by the Heseltine Institute by it’s Co-Director, Sue Jarvis. We are sure that this line-up will make for a constructive and positive discussion.
