Event description
An event as part of the IGNITION project, which aims to develop innovative financing solutions for investment in Greater Manchester.

About this Event

UKGBC, in partnership with the IGNITION project, is hosting an all-day event which includes a series of inspirational presentations, a tour of the University of Salford’s ‘Living Lab’, networking and best of all a free lunch. Suppliers will outline the business case behind real projects where they have created green infrastructure, followed by a panel discussion and time for questions. This will be a key opportunity for suppliers and other stakeholders to engage in the project, to understand the future potential for green infrastructure in Greater Manchester and subsequently raise their profile within the industry.

IGNITION is a ground-breaking project that aims to develop innovative financing solutions for investment in Greater Manchester’s natural environment, aiming to create a 10% increase in Greater Manchester’s urban green infrastructure coverage by 2038. This investment will help to build the city region’s ability to adapt to the increasingly extreme impacts of climate change. Working with nature solutions such as rain gardens, street trees, green roofs and walls and development of green spaces can help tackle socio-environmental challenges including flooding events, water security, air quality, loss of biodiversity and human health and wellbeing.

This project, backed by €4.5 million from the EU’s Urban Innovation Actions initiative, brings together 12 partners from local government, universities, NGOs and business. The aim is to develop the first model of its kind that enables major investment in large-scale environmental projects which can increase climate resilience.

The objectives for the day:

  • Understand which organisations can supply Greater Manchester with green infrastructure and who are the stakeholders to drive this.
  • Unpick the evidence costing used to deliver green infrastructure.

Why attend:

  • Gain an overview of the £4.5 million funded IGNITION project and the wider work taking place in Greater Manchester to increase the city region's natural capital.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the IGNITION project in its journey to build funding mechanisms for a 10% increase in green infrastructure across Greater Manchester.
  • Join one of the first tours of the University of Salford’s ‘Living Lab’ which is being developed to create essential data and persuade businesses and organisations to invest in climate change adaptation features.
  • Join a stimulating discussion on how, why and what we can do to deliver green infrastructure in Greater Manchester.

 Speakers include:

  • Nicholas Davies, Research Fellow, University of Salford
  • Alastair Mant, Head of Business Transformation, UKGBC
  • Samuel Evans, Greater Manchester Combined Authority
  • Amanda Skeldon, Campaign Manager – Water Resilient Cities, BITC
  • Sam Hartley, Campaign Officer, BITC
  • Pete Stringer, Special Projects Manager, City of Trees
  • 7 Green Infrastructure Suppliers – TBC

Who should attend:

This event is ideal for professionals working across the built environment with an interest in or capacity to deliver green infrastructure. Although this event is open to anyone it will be of particularly interest to GI suppliers, investors, developers, architects, consultants, designers, engineers, manufacturers and planners.
