This event will focus on opportunities for Scottish businesses to develop new products and processes in the sports, fitness, health and leisure sectors.

Could your business benefit from opportunities in sports, fitness, health or leisure markets?

Come and hear from a range of businesses already selling to or working in these areas: learn about market opportunities and get tips on how to capitalise on them.

The global health and leisure industries present a range of exciting opportunities for new and growing businesses.  In Scotland alone, we spent £1.8m on sport in 2008, which was around 2.5% of total consumer expenditure (SportScotland Report: Economic importance of sport in Scotland 1998-2008, Sheffield Hallam University, 2011).

Many firms in Scotland working outside the sport and leisure sector are unaware that they have the skills, technologies, products and services that could be applied to consumer or organisational needs in the leisure sector. This event will raise awareness of opportunities to transfer technology and ideas to sport from Scotland’s key sectors, as well as the funding and other support available to support this process.

The event is aimed at businesses in Scotland which:

  • are already working in the sports, fitness, health or leisure sectors and would like to grow;
  • have ideas for new products or services in the sports, fitness, health or leisure markets;
  • are operating in technical textiles, smart materials, food & drink or digital media sectors and interested in finding out how their know-how might be applied to sports, fitness, health or leisure markets.

The event may also be of interest to academics working with businesses in areas such as prototyping, product development or technical testing.

Registration is from 9am and the formal programme will end with a networking lunch at 1pm. There will also be an opportunity for businesses to sign up for 1:1 sessions with our team from 1.30-2.30pm.

Speakers at this event will include

  • Sam Fernando, Sales Director, Keela International – a Scottish company working at the forefront of fabric technology and outdoor garment construction.
  • Brian Nicolson, Director, Reflex Blue – a cutting edge Scottish design and advertising company using technology to develop new products for the sports market.
  • Jim Duffy, Chief Executive Optimist, Entrepreneurial Spark – a not-for-profit social enterprise engine that is geared to drive entrepreneurial mindsets and behaviours in and from Scotland.
  • Donnie Maclean, Managing Director, Eat Balanced – a new Scottish company leading the way in nutritionally-balanced convenience foods.
  • Scott Goodwin, Director, Hotbott – a Scottish start-up that saw the market opportunity for a new funky portable heated seat to keep you warm at outdoor events.
