Building Inclusive Economies through Public Procurement
Event Information
About this event
In this seminar, we invite you to listen to some examples of programmes and initiatives that have, or aim to, harness the power of public procurement, commissioning, and contract management to deliver tangible, economically inclusive benefits to local communities.
You will have the opportunity to consider your own organisation’s processes and policies around procurement, economic development, and inequalities, and to discuss these topics with peers and leading practitioners.
What’s on the agenda?
Sophie Little, The Living Wage Foundation, with Ravi Badat, GMCA, will provide an introduction to the Living Wage Foundation, Living Wage in the Supply Chain, and The Good Employment Charter.
Paul Murphy, Manchester City Council, will be joining us to share how the Real Living Wage has been implemented in Manchester.
Deborah Gaunt and Vicky McGhee, Calderdale Council, will be discussing inclusive economies and procurement at Calderdale Council.
Tim Rudin, Greater London Authority Group, will be providing an overview of how the Greater London Authority is using its procurement spend and supplier relationships to create social value and address the social, economic and environmental challenges faced by London.
Who should attend?
This session will be of interest to anybody who is considering how procurement and commissioning practices in the local public sector can be harnessed to help deliver more vibrant and inclusive local economies for the communities that we serve. This includes for example, any colleagues with an interest or brief in procurement, commissioning, social value, economic policy, growth, regeneration, or development.
