Are you the custodian of a historic building or a volunteer working with one?All Saints Church, Edmonton, is delighted to host the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) for a special, free, one-day course on historic building maintenance.This introductory-level training is specifically designed to help owners, custodians, volunteers and users of historic buildings understand their building, and take practical action to look after it. It explains how traditional buildings were constructed, how they work and can decay, and how to spot and tackle common problems.The course explains how ‘maintenance’ differs from ‘repair’ and emphasises the value of carrying out regular checks and simple steps to keep buildings in good condition. It places maintenance issues into context by looking at local building types, construction methods, and common materials in the area.The day includes a practical exercise looking at local buildings to identify maintenance issues and areas of vulnerability. Participants will also have an opportunity to discuss their own building with the tutor and others attending.Lunch and refreshments provided free of charge. <h3>This event has been made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the ‘Reviving All Saints Edmonton’ project.</h3> This project is about All Saints reconnecting with Edmonton’s communities, and ensuring this valuable historic building can support and benefit local people of all ages, backgrounds and interests, for many generations to come.This year-long project will deliver urgent repairs to the building, alongside a programme of community activities and events that will bring people together to explore and celebrate the heritage of All Saints and Edmonton.London Historic Buildings Trust is the appointed Project Manager for the project.
