Overview
Aims: · Gain understanding of the development of communication, interaction and play in emerging spontaneous communicators e.g. those who are Gestalt Language Processors; those who are non-speaking but are able to use other methods to communicate in some contexts · Develop an understanding of strengths and differences in communication and interaction as experienced by autistic children Contents: · Explanation of the differences in the development of social understanding and social communication in autistic CYP · How to adapt your communication and interaction style to better suit autistic children and young people · How to build upon emerging skills to enable them to become more spontaneous and varied communicators · Incorporating communication, social understanding and interaction opportunities across the curriculum, including embedding communication methods, such as Aided Language Displays, choice boards, communication books
