Description

Course content: Understanding Historic Lime Mortars, Renders and Plasters. Understanding their composition and how they function in historic building technology. Their selection, mixing and application for the specific location or structural requirement.

Understanding Cob Structures. Identifying causes of failure and the selection of appropriate repair and conservation systems including traditional and appropriate modern materials and methods. Recommendations on the long term care and maintenance of cob domestic buildings.

Cost: There will be a fee of £20 per person to cover the cost of all refreshments for each individual course so for all five courses the cost is £100.

Time: Coffee will be available from 9am with a 9.30am start. The course will finish around 5pm.

Address of Venue: Burley Village Hall, Pound Lane, Burley, BH24 4EB

Road: From Bransgore (from south): Take the Burley Road north and follow onto Pound Lane. Village Hall situated on your left as you enter the centre of Burley.

From Brockenhurst (from east): Take the Burley Road out of the village follow the road towards Holmsley and continue to the centre of Burley. Take left onto Pound Lane and Village Hall will be on your right.

Via A31: Come off the A31 at the Picket Post turning. Follow the Ringwood Road south until you reach the centre of Burley. Turn right onto Pound Lane and Village Hall will be on your right.

Parking: There is plenty of free car parking available at Burley Village Hall.

Lunch: A light lunch and refreshments will be available on the day with a lunchbreak scheduled.

Dietary and Mobility Requirements: Please kindly provide us with any dietary or mobility requirements.

Equipment: Where applicable a site visit is proposed as part of the day for the historic masonry, timber framed structures and joinery courses. Please bring appropriate footwear and clothes for less than favourable weather. In addition if you are attending the lime mortars, renders and plasters and cob course please be aware that this will be an interactive day and an opportunity to get hands on. Therefore please bring along appropriate clothes and footwear to work in such an environment.

Please note that external speakers and locations are subject to change but confirmed details will be emailed to prior to each course date.

Cancellation policy

If it is necessary for you to cancel your booking for whatever reason, please inform us as soon as possible. Cancellation charges are applied in all cases as it is difficult to fill spaces made vacant by late cancellations. A full refund is given only if more than 3 weeks’ notice is given. See below for refund rates:

  • Over 3 weeks’ cancellation notice: Full refund
  • 2 -3 weeks cancellation notice: 50 % refund*
  • Less than 14 days cancellation notice: No refund*

*Unless we are able to fill your place at short notice, in which case a full refund will be given

No refund will be given for non-attendance or if no prior cancellation is given.

The New Forest National Park Authority reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course up to the course date if insufficient bookings have been received. Places may also be held on these courses until an alternative date has been finalised.
