About this event
Tuesday 17th May 2022, 6.45pm (GMT) at RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD
We are delighted to announce our second in-person Building Stories talk, to be held at 66 Portland Place.
Focusing on Tintagel Castle Footbridge – our vibrant expert panel will bring the story of this project to life – which in 2021 along with winning a RIBA South West Award and National Award, it was one of six projects shortlisted for the Stirling Prize.
Hosted by former RIBA president Ben Derbyshire (HTA Design), William Matthews (William Matthews Associates) will be joined by special guests (tbc) to tell the story of how beautiful design and technical achievement created much more than a bridge.
Tintangel Castle Footbridge unites magic and history.
Designed by William Matthews (WMA) and Ney & Partners engineers, the 68 metre bridge is one of the most ambitious and complicated heritage projects seen in the UK in recent years.
With its unusual surface of 40,000 locally sourced slate tiles, contemporary visitors can retrace the steps of predecessors, entering the 13th Century castle over a spectacular rocky chasm, heading into the grand hall on the island side.
Come and join us for a drink beforehand, as we open up 66 Portland Place and celebrate award-winning architecture in person.
