Building Stories is a weekly series of live digital and in person talks where architects reveal their RIBA award-winning building.

About this event

Tuesday 7th June 2022, 6.45pm (GMT) at RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD

We are delighted to announce that our next in-person Building Stories talk at 66 Portland Place, will focus on two buildings!

Windermere Jetty Museum and Key Worker Housing were both on the 2021 Stirling Prize shortlist. Join us for this event where our vibrant expert panel will bring the stories of these buildings to life, hosted by RIBA President Simon Allford (AHMM).

Special guests will include Rowan Seaford (Carmody Groarke) alongside structural engineer Craig Irvine (Arup) who will discuss Windermere Jetty Museum and its unique setting in the Lake District National Park, and Kaori Ohsugi (Stanton Williams) and Jo Gibbons (J & L Gibbons) who will reveal the story behind Key Worker Housing.

Windermere Jetty Museum, Carmody Groarke - a confident cluster of shed-like buildings framing views of Lake Windermere – this project is dedicated to telling the stories of boats and steam. The compelling composition of vernacular forms achieves an unusual reconciliation of the reassuringly familiar with the strikingly contemporary., The project won a 2021 RIBA North West Award, North West Building of the Year Award and North West Client of the Year Award. It was also on the 2021 Stirling Prize shortlist.

Key Worker Housing, Eddington, Cambridge, Stanton Williams – a fresh take on communal city-living with loose, interconnected courtyards that are easily accessible by all. It won a 2021 RIBA East Award and National Award and was shortlisted for the 2021 Stirling Prize and Neave Brown Award for Housing.

Come and join us for a drink beforehand, as we open up 66 Portland Place and celebrate award-winning architecture in person.
