Building Your Business: Finance with Guy Ashton & Tom Gosling
Please note: This event is for Meyler Campbell Connected Members only (current students & Alumni)
So, you have graduated as a Meyler Campbell Coach but what are the next steps to building, launching, and managing a successful coaching business? How will you ensure you gain clients, make money, and meet your legal and financial compliance requirements?
In an exciting three-part series, Meyler Campbell Faculty Member Guy Ashton will be joined by invited guest speakers from the Meyler Campbell community to discuss three key elements of building your coaching business: Brand, Structure & Finance. This second webinar focusing on the importance of Structure, Guy will be joined by Meyler Campbell coach in training and former Partner at PwC, Tom Gosling.
We will presume you can coach well and safely, but there is a myriad of sometimes daunting other aspects that you will need to master in order to be able to get out there and deliver coaching. This webinar series will explore what you need to consider to be effective at marketing your business; ensuring you are legally compliant and robust, as well as being financially sound.
We will consider the use of social media and websites. We will look at insurance, contracts, and terms and conditions. We will discuss different forms of operating (sole trader, limited company, partnership, associate relationships). We will consider bookkeeping, VAT thresholds and digital submission, payroll management, IR35, income tax and corporation tax. Please note, we will not be giving advice, merely guidance to help you navigate and be aware of some of these issues.
Guy Ashton has been a freelance coach for six years, and has operated as a sole trader, an associate and as a limited company on his own and as part of a larger business. In his youth he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) and spent several years teaching and training finance professionals, so he knows what it is like not to understand this stuff. As well as a 20-year career in Investment Banking, Guy was Finance Portfolio Holder for Winchester City Council, and is Chair of the Finance Committee for one of the country’s biggest Sixth Form Colleges, Barton Peveril in Eastliegh, near Southampton.
Tom Gosling has 20+ years of experience as a board advisor. Most recently he was a senior Partner at PwC where he established and led the firm’s executive pay practice, advising FTSE-100 and equivalent private and European companies on corporate governance and executive pay. He left the firm in the summer of 2020 and now has a mixed portfolio of paid and pro-bono work including academic work with London Business School, membership of the steering committee of The Purposeful Company think-tank, executive and financial Coaching, and consulting. Tom is currently completing the Meyler Campbell Mastered programme. Tom has a PhD in Applied Mathematics and is a Qualified Actuary.
