Dr Andrew McClelland, former Heritage at Risk Officer at UAHS, will talk about the changing values attributed to industrial heritage in Northern Ireland. He will use the case of Sinton’s Mill - a former flax spinning mill in Tandragee dating from the 1860s - to consider the challenges arising from their decline and the hopes for their future. Sebastian Graham, UAH Heritage Projects Officer, will highlight two challenging industrial buildings with contrasting fortunes – both featured in Built to Last. The vast Gilford Mill near Banbridge closed in 1986 and still awaits a sustainable future. The Pump House in the Titanic Quarter, Belfast, has taken on a new lease of life as a whiskey distillery retaining the industrial feel of the building. • Tickets are available via Eventbrite from the UAHS website and should be purchased in advance.
