Event description
Free, bookable timed admission to Burgh House. Explore our beautiful Queen Anne house steeped in over 300 years of history.

About this Event

We are delighted to be opening our doors and welcoming visitors to Burgh House once again. There is no charge for entry, but we have a few new measures in place to help keep the staff and visitors safe.

The house is open Wednesday-Friday & Sunday 10am-4pm, (last entry at 3pm). Entry is on the hour, 45 minutes long and bookable to keep within a safe capacity. We are limiting numbers to six visitors at a time unless of course you are a larger family group or bubble.

This allows us to maintain social distancing within the house and for cleaning between visitor groups.

What can we see?

The beautiful 1920s music room, our cosy library, our shop and contemporary exhibitions in the Peggy Jay Gallery (please see ‘Exhibitions’ for more information.)

From Wednesday 16 September our latest exhibition A Nest of Gentle Artists: Randolph Schwabe and his Hampstead Contemporaries will be open to the public. This fantastic exhibition will be available to visit within the booked timeslots.

Please note the museum and Christopher Wade exhibition space will be closed until 2021. The open areas of the house are fully accessible, please let us know on booking if you require step-free access.

How are you keeping COVID-19 safe?

We will be asking visitors to:

• Stay home if you have any Coronavirus symptoms (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste) or if you have been in contact with anyone who has symptoms

• Book tickets online so we can record details for the NHS Track and Trace scheme (please note we will destroy your details after 21 days)

• Wear a mask or face covering when visiting the house in line with government guidelines

• Use hand sanitiser upon entry

• Maintain social distancing (+1 metre) between you and other visitors outside of your family or bubble.

We will be:

• Monitoring and reducing visitor numbers to encourage social distancing

• Introducing a one-way route through the ground floor of the house

• Conducting enhanced cleaning between visitor groups:

o Thorough cleaning at the beginning and end of the day

o Regular cleaning between visitor groups

o Frequent cleaning of the visitor toilets (located in the modern Peggy Jay Gallery at the end of your visit)

We are proud to be part of Visit England’s We’re Good to Go quality assurance scheme. We have demonstrated our commitment to visitor and staff safety, social distancing and good hygiene standards.

How do I book?

Tickets are available in advance from Eventbrite, you can find the link on our website and social media. You do not need to bring your tickets with you or have them available on your phone, you just need to give your name to the member of staff manning the entrance.

If the timeslots are not fully booked, tickets will be available on the door. These will be allocated on a first come first serve basis and we will require one member from the party to provide their contact details for NHS Track & Trace. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate groups without booking in advance.

What happens if I can no longer make my booked slot?

Please phone us on 020 7431 0144 or email the team at info@burghhouse.org.uk if you can’t make your booking and we will do our best to rebook you where possible.

Due to the restrictions on visitor numbers, if you do not contact us and fail to honour your timeslot any future booking you make may be cancelled at the discretion of management to prioritise other visitors.

More information

We do not allow food or drink in the house but The Burgh House Café is open Wednesday-Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday & Sunday 9:30am-5:30pm with indoor and outdoor seating. They also offer a takeaway option and with Hampstead Heath just a five-minute walk away there are plenty of spaces for picnics.

We are encouraging cashless transactions in the shop and café where possible.
