Burning Eye Books will be hosting a panel and Q&A about poetry & publishing, and will be joined by local artists

About this event

Burning Eye Books will be hosting a panel and Q&A about poetry & publishing, and will be joined by local artists, Abdullah Adekola and Jemima Foxtrot.

Burning Eye Books is small independent publisher in the South West, home to the UK's best and boldest spoken word artists, slam / stand up and performance poets. Burning Eye aims to dispel the assumption that performance poetry does not transfer well to page as well as give emerging and established artist opportunities to be published where they might be rejected from other traditional poetry publishers. They look for the bold, the fearless, the strange, and the outcast.

Jemima Foxtrot is a writer and performer who performs and teaches internationally. Her poetry has been published and anthologised widely and her debut collection of poetry All Damn Day was published by Burning Eye Books in 2016. She is the founder of Kindreds Creatives and has written numerous works for the stage. Their new collection A New Game is out with Burning Eye in June 2022.

Abdullah Adekola is a writer and performer, based in Leeds, UK. He was selected for the New Creatives North talent development program by Arts council England and BBC Arts. A proud Black and British and working-class artist, he believes you should tell your story or risk being ignored or misrepresented. Adekola is interested in decoloniality, creative wellbeing, social justice, mental health recovery, and healthy masculinities. He tries to be playful, curious, and kind. Adekola is a board member of the David Oluwale Memorial Association. His debut collection Nigrescence was released in autumn 2021.
