Event description

Description

For one day only you will have the chance to see inside the Burnley Empire and meet with community campaigners and experts on Sunday 22nd September as Heritage Open Days celebrates 25 years of People Power.

The purpose built Edwardian theatre has been closed since the late 90's and members of the public will have a rare opportunity to see inside Burnley’s last surviving Music Hall.

Burnley Empire Trust have teamed up with One Sixty who will host the event check-in, briefing, hard hat and Hi-Vi station. It is then approximately a 2 minute walk to the Burnley Empire site. Visitors will be able to see inside the building through an entrance on Cow Lane that was used when built in 1894. Whilst able to see inside the historic gem through a specially created viewing area, visitors will learn about the significance of the building, current condition and project to restore and reopen.

From registration, preparation, site visit and return to starting point, the estimated duration is 30 minutes. Children are welcome to this event but only when accompanied by an adult, one child per adult. The Burnley Empire is currently in a state of repair and we would kindly ask anyone wanting to visit the site entrance to wear sensible clothing and footwear. Please be aware that there is limited access as this is an ongoing restoration project.

After the site visit is complete visitors will be guided back to One Sixty to remove all site wear with the opportunity to join in conversations, ask questions and view an exclusive selection of unseen original architectural drawings of the Burnley Empire.

One Sixty is an independent cafe and visitors are welcome to stay after the event to talk further with the people behind the project and purchase food or drink.

All donations are welcome on the day.

Please note that this is not a tour of the building. This is an opportunity to see inside the building from a viewing area created especially for this event.

*Burnley Empire Trust reserve the right to have final say on any entrance to the event on the day
**Please be responsible when attending this event and take care on the site visit as this is live restoration project.
***Filming & photography will be in progress throughout the event. By entering Burnley Empire & One Sixty you hereby acknowledge that filming is taking place by North Films & Burnley Empire Trust. Consent will be optional and requested on the day when registering attendance at your allocated time slot.
