Burns Night with Hortus

Burns Night with Hortus

By Falkland Palace & Garden

Overview

Join us on Saturday 24th January to honour Scotland's Bard with music, merriment and history brought to life!

Falkland Palace and Garden is delighted to present Burn's Night with Hortus, a collection of sung delights exploring the music and song traditions from which Burns' genius emerged - from courtly madrigals to bawdy part songs, folk songs to more prayerful offerings - interwoven of course with the uniquely thoughtful, romantic and rousing songs of the Scottish poet himself.

"Hortus (meaning Garden) are a quartet of four choristers from the choir of St Giles' cathedral in Edinburgh. We are passionate about bringing beautiful historic music alive in places it may once have been heard – in fact, one of the pieces in our repertoire is a welcome song composed for Margaret Tudor on her marriage to James the IV in 1503 – which, given Margaret and James’ love for Falkland Palace may well have been last heard in that very place over 500 years ago!"

Doors will open at 7pm. The concert will last 1 hour.

Please be aware that the Chapel Royal is only accessable up one flight of spiral stairs.
