What to wear & what to bring...
You are advised to wear appropriate loose fitting layered clothing which can easily be removed or added pending on the weather. A sun hat and sun cream along with bottled water to sip at regular intervals is also recommended.
If the weather has been wet leading up to the event, the trail maybe muddy and be prone to puddles in parts, therefore we recommend you wear strong shoes or walking boots. We will walk even if it's raining, so we recommend you bring along a waterproof coat just in case.
Please note there are some stiles and narrow accessing gates along the trail as well as a couple of steep inclines, therefore people with limited mobility may find parts of the trail a challenge.
Walking with children...
The first section ONLY of the walk between Bolton Street Station & Burrs Country Park is Buggy Friendly and suitable for children of all ages. We ask that all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult (1:1).
**Please Note** The East Lancashire Railway carriages can accommodate several collapsed buggies in the overhead luggage compartments in each of the five carriages. However, there will be restricted space available any for buggies left fully assembled.
Due to the narrowing of the path along the riverbank, during the second section of the walk between Burrs Country Park & Summerseat, children under the age of 6 years will not be allowed due to the health & safety challenges this may pose.
Please remember that everyone using the trail does so at their own risk and should think of their safety and that of any children for whom they are responsible.
Children aged 16 and under do NOT need to register for a ticket, but you will need to supply their name and age when prompted during registration. This information is ESSENTIAL to ensure everyone gets a train ride home.
Please note: Dogs are NOT permitted on this walk
The countryside provides every opportunity for enjoyment and relaxation. Be safe and follow any signs; Leave gates and property as you find them; Protect plants and animals; Take your litter home; Consider other people.
