Event description

Description

Get hands-on experience making fires by various methods, including friction. We will begin with foraging for materials, types of fuel, dealing with wet and windy conditions, safety and control. Afterwards we will look at campfires and their uses, making safe and leaving no trace.

Part of Bushcraft week at Kinnoull Hill

Who? Families and adults of all abilities.

What? The sessions are intended to be fun and packed full of skills, giving practical tips to increase confidence and to spark interest in enjoying the amazing countryside of Scotland.

Min Age? Under 16s to be accompanied by an adult guardian. Under 18s to have parental / guardian consent. No minimum age, as parents can bring their children.

Programme:

There are 5 topics, each covered twice during the week, so if you cannot make one, you can catch it another time. You can opt to do as many sessions as you like and can opt for a whole day or just one half. The navigation day naturally sits as one topic, but you can still attend either half.

Location: Park at Jubilee car park, based at The Shed.

Toilets and wet weather shelter available, plus means to make hot drinks.

Instructor and Leader: Malcolm Handoll of Five Senses, has been teaching outdoor skills, bushcraft and survival for 30 years, specialising in mountain, coast and natural navigation, friction fire making, foraging and emergency shelters.
